I am Kathy McLean, 4th grade Math/Science teacher at South Pemiscot. I obtained my Associates degree from Dyersburg State, my Elementary degree from The University of Tennessee at Martin, and my Masters degree from Union University in Tennessee. This is my 36th year of teaching and my 5th year at South Pemiscot. I retired from teaching in Tennessee after teaching 31 years. While in TN, I taught all subjects (self-contained classroom). I have taught K-5th grades. While in Tennessee: I taught Kindergarten for 2 years, 1st grade for 1 year, 2nd grade for 6 years, 2/3 split for 2 years, 4th grade for 10 years, and 5th grade for 5 years. Additionally, I taught NON-graded multi-age for 5 years. I had 6 Kindergarten students, 6 1st graders, and 6 2nd graders. I kept them for 3 years. I used Montessori manipulatives in my classroom during most of my career. I learned a tremendous amount of knowledge during my 31 years at Trimble Elementary. I believe strongly in "hands on" learning. Therefore, I use developmentally appropriate work stations in my classroom to reinforce skills. I want my classroom to be inviting so I use flexible seating. I believe students learn best when they are comfortable.

My husband, Lyn, and I have been married for 42 years. He is a farmer, cattleman, and a USDA meat inspector where we live in Newbern, TN. We have two children. Heather is 37 years old, and Heath is 33 years old. Heather is married to Jason Volpe, and they have 2 children. Jason is an accountant. My precious grandchildren are Emma (5) and Colin (5 months). Heather is a District Manager through Syngenta Seed and Chemical Company. My son, Heath, is not married yet and is a Pain Management/Palliative Care Specialist at the Veterans Administration. He received his Doctor's degree from Union University. Both my children live in Memphis, TN.

Living on a farm, I am passionate about Agriculture. Both my children were FFA State Officers while in college. I also enjoy photography and love being a grandmother. I thoroughly enjoy teaching, and I am passionate about teaching Math. I try to make Math fun and strive to ensure that ALL students love Math and realize that they, too, can be successful with Math.

Sincerely,

Kathy McLean
